Many children all over the world have been made happy because a little boy was once given such a gift.

Franz's Luck Gift

In a small valley, high up in the mountains of Austria, there lived, long ago, a little boy named Franz.
很久以前，在奧地利群山上的一個小山谷里生活著一個名叫弗朗茨的小男孩。
One fall day his mother and brother John were getting ready to go to the city, where they would work until spring.
一個秋季的一天，他的媽媽和哥哥約翰正準備去城市里，他們將在那兒一直工作到春天。
Franz had to stay at home with his grandfather, and he was very sad as he watched his mother packing her clothes.
于是弗朗茨不得不和祖父呆在家里，他看到媽媽收拾衣物非常傷心。
"Never mind, lad," she said. "I'll send you a present from the city, and we will call it a 'luck gift.'
孩子，沒事的，媽媽說。我會從城市里給你寄一份禮物過來，我們稱它為幸運禮物。
If it brings good luck, you will be a luck boy."
如果它能給你帶來好運，你就會是個幸運的男孩。
Franz had read about children who were given such wonderful gifts by fairies that they were called "luck children."

So he did not feel sad any more, but whistled and sang and helped his mother.
于是他不再感到傷心，而是吹著口哨唱著歌幫媽媽收拾了。
Early the next morning a man called for John and his mother, and off they went.

Franz watched them go down the mountain road, and then went back into the house to help his grandfather.
