析：have no alternative but to do sth 意為“除了做某事外沒 有其它的辦法”，but 后通常接帶 to 不定式。比較：There was no alternative but to leave. (沒有別的辦法，只好離 開)。

■他沒有別的辦法，只好呆在家里。

誤：He had no alternative to stay at home.

正：He had no alternative to staying at home.

析：have no alternative to doing sth( 除了做某事外沒有別的 辦法)與 have no alternative but to do sth 大致同義。注 意其中的 to是介詞，表示“代替”的對象，如：There areseveral alternatives to your plan.( 有好幾個可以代替你 的計劃的方案)。

誤：You have the alternative to speaking or keeping quiet.

正：You have the alternative of speaking or keeping quiet.

析：the alternative 后接介詞 to 或 of 的區(qū)別是：用 to 表示 代替，用 of 表同位關(guān)系。如：We took the alternative of keeping quiet.(我們選擇了保持沉默)。
