Andy: You know what the Mexicans say about the Pacific? They say it has no memory. That's where I want to live the rest of my life. A warm place with no memory. Open up a little hote! right on the beach. Buy some worthless old boat and fix it up new. Take my guests out charter fishing.
安迪：你知道墨西哥人怎么說太平洋嗎？他們說那是沒有記憶的海洋。我要在那里度過余生。沒有回憶的溫暖所在。在海邊開個小旅館，買條破船整飭一新。載客出海，包船海釣。
Red: Zihuatanejo?
瑞德：芝華塔尼歐？
Andy: In a place like that, I could use a man that knows how to get things.
安迪：你在這種地方也大有可為，因為你有辦法搞到各種玩意兒。
Red: I don't think I could make it on the outside, Andy. I've been in here most of my life. I'm an institutional man now. Just like Brooks was.
瑞德：我在外頭吃不開了。我一生大部分時間都耗在這兒了。我現在也被體制化了，跟老布一樣。
Andy: Well, you underestimate yourself.
安迪：別小看自己。
Red: I don't think so. In here I'm the guy who can get things for you, sure but outside all you need is the Yellow Pages. Hell, I wouldn't even know where to begin. Pacific Ocean? Shit! About to scare me to death, somethin' that big.
瑞德：我不這么看。我在牢里對你有求必應，但是一歲入社會你想要什么查查電話號碼簿就行了。其實我連查都不會啊，太平洋？放屁。那么大個玩意兒得把我嚇個半死。
Andy: Not me. I didn't shoot my wife and I didn't shoot her lover, and whatever mistakes I made I've paid for them and then some. That hotel, that boat... I don't think that's too much to ask.
安迪：我可不。我沒有殺死我老婆和她的情夫，即使我犯了鍘已經償清了。一間旅館，一葉扁舟，這一點兒也不過分。
Red: I don't think you ought'o be doing this to yourself. Andy This is shitty pipe dreams! I mean Mexico's in the way the hell down there, and you're in here, and that's the way it is!
瑞德：你不該這么妄想。這完全是癡人說夢。墨西哥和這里天地北，就這么簡單。
Andy: Yeah, right. That's the way it is. It's down there, and I'm in here. I guess it comes down to a simple choice, really. Get busy living... or get busy dying.
安迪：話是如此，天南地北。說到底就是個二選一的問題。要忙于生存，要么趕著去死。
