電影《瓶中信》講的是任職于芝加哥論壇報的專欄作家泰瑞莎在海邊發現了一個埋在白沙中的玻璃瓶，瓶內裝著一封屬名G的信。泰瑞莎深深被信中G的真愛打動。這封信陰錯陽差的被刊登在報紙上，并得到熱烈的回響。于是她被指派去尋找這封信的主人。如其所愿，泰瑞莎遇見了帆船建造師蓋瑞。蓋瑞和畫家妻子凱瑟琳感情甚篤。但自從凱薩琳因病過世后，蓋瑞一直無法走出悲傷陰影。他原封不動的保留凱瑟琳生前的畫筆和畫布，只為每天回味、復習在一起時的感受。
