As Jerry took his place behind the curtain, Mark got ready to take note of his every move! He wanted to be a comedian too! And if Mark was going to take his chances telling jokes in front of large crowds, he had to take his time preparing—that included learning from the best!
杰里在幕后就座,馬克準(zhǔn)備注意他的每一個動作!他也想當(dāng)一名喜劇演員!如果馬克想碰運氣在大庭廣眾前講笑話,他就得慢慢準(zhǔn)備——其中包括向最優(yōu)秀的演員學(xué)習(xí)!
When Jerry picked up the microphone, the show took off! He was hilarious. Take it from me! He was able to ridicule everybody without offending one person. He even took it out on black people! The room was silent for a second, but then they burst out laughing even harder! No one even thought to take it out on Jerry in some other way, such as calling him a racist! They just laughed!
杰里拿起麥克風(fēng),演出開始了!他太滑稽了。相信我好啦!他可以嘲笑每一個人同時又不得罪任何人。他甚至拿黑人出氣。一屋子人沉默了一會兒,接著便爆發(fā)出一陣更猛烈的笑聲!甚至都沒有人想用某種其他方式拿杰里出氣,比如說叫他種族主義者!他們只是一笑了之!

Mark took notes furiously. He really had to take his hat off to Jerry! And Mark wondered if he would ever be able to take his position to make people laugh like that! He hoped so. But he swore to himself that he would never take over a stage after Jerry—that would be a let down for the crowd!
馬克緊張地做著筆記。他真的得佩服杰里!馬克懷疑他是否能有朝一日取代他的位置,讓人們那樣開懷大笑!他希望他能。但他對自己發(fā)誓說決不接替杰里的舞臺之職一這會令觀眾們大失所望!
As Mark watched Jerry come backstage after the show he could see that the performance had taken its toll on Jerry—he was wiped out! He also immediately took out of his pocket a pack of cigarettes and started smoking to calm himself down!
馬克看著杰里表演完畢回到后臺,這時他發(fā)現(xiàn)這次演出對杰里造成了傷害——他被徹底毀了!他也立即從口袋里掏出一包煙,開始吸煙使自己鎮(zhèn)靜下來!
Mark went over and talked to Jerry. When Mark said that he would never want to get on stage and take it over after Jerry had performed, Jerry rudely replied. "Well, if that's what you have to do, that's what you have to do! Take it or leave it!"
馬克走過去找杰里說話。當(dāng)馬克說他永遠(yuǎn)不會上臺在杰里表演之后把戲接過來,杰里粗魯?shù)鼗卮鸬溃骸昂美玻撛趺崔k你就得怎么辦!要就要,不要拉倒!”
