Streaming television surged, the broadcast networks slipped, and TV fans found plenty of reasons for celebration and sourness in the 66th Primetime Emmy nominations.

The Netflix insurgency gained steam, with the subscription video service racking up 31 nominations for its original programs, led by drama 'House of Cards' and comedy 'Orange Is the New Black.' Just two years ago, Netflix was barely on the radar of the TV Academy. Now, the company seems to have made itself at home with Emmy voters. Much of its roster of nominees came from the ensemble cast of 'Orange Is the New Black,' which had 12 nominations, more than any other comedy.

It was a somewhat controversial move--some observers thought it should be categorized as a miniseries, because the show's cast, storyline and setting will be different next season.
