It was Brigitte Bardot’s “sex kitten” image that made her so recognizable. In 1956 she became known all over the world after starring in the seductive thriller And God Created Woman. The movie was criticized by some for having a sexist point of view, as Bardot was portrayed as a young woman with a high level a sexual energy. The film pushed the limits of censorship in America and the public loved it. During the 1960s Bardot held the image of a free spirit and had many publicized relationships and marriages. In her later years she became an animal rights activist and has even been fined for inciting racial hatred.
