The Beijing Municipal Government will soon issue an odd-even car ban requiring alternate driving days for cars with even- and odd-numbered license plates in case of lingering smog, Xinhua has learnt.

When the city issues a red alert for air pollution, an alternate-day driving system for odd- and even-numbered license plates will be initiated to reduce pollution, according to the Beijing Municipal Heavy Air Pollution Emergency Response Program.

The program was passed on Wednesday at the meeting of the Standing Committee of the Beijing Municipal Committee of the Communist Party of China, and will soon be released to the public by the Beijing Municipal Government.

據(jù)新華社報(bào)道，為防止煙霧持續(xù)不散，北京市政府不久將出臺(tái)單雙號(hào)限行規(guī)定。該規(guī)定要求機(jī)動(dòng)車按其牌照單、雙號(hào)交替出行。

據(jù)《北京市空氣重污染應(yīng)急預(yù)案》規(guī)定，當(dāng)啟動(dòng)最高紅色預(yù)警時(shí)，將實(shí)行單雙號(hào)限行措施以降低空氣污染。

該《預(yù)案》于上周三由北京市委常委會(huì)討論通過，并將很快對(duì)外公布。

文中的odd-even car ban就是“單雙號(hào)限行”的意思。其中odd解釋為奇數(shù)的，又如odd numbers 基數(shù)；與之對(duì)應(yīng)的是even 偶數(shù)的，又如even numbers 偶數(shù)。此外，odd-numbered license plates指“單號(hào)牌照”。
