Lindsey C. The theme that loss accompanies gain can also be seen in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Gatsby, the protagonist of the novel, recreate his whole image to gain his sweet heart, Daisy, He is able to turn himself from rags to rich by selling and trading on the black market. He lives in a mansion, has a numerous amount of cars and throw tremendous parties, yet Gatsby is sad inside because he only has materialistic gain. He forgets who he really is in the process of transforming himself into a rich man. As a tragic hero, Gatsby is a great example of the sacrifice that comes along with progress.

點評：盡管有點兒偏題，但是 Lindsey 對蓋茨比的現實而物質的生活態度的心里洞察，以及他隨后對自我認知的缺失的描寫，都是非常精彩的。
