Rob G John Steinbeck's masterpiece, The Grapes of Wrath, is one of the greatest example of plans going awry. The Joad family leaves their home with a simple plan: make their way to beautiful California where jobs are and peaches can be plunked from very tree and savored as the juice down one's neck. Rather than sit back passively in the Dust Bowl, the Joads as a family make plans to move west. On their journey, the family encounters many hardships, but these are only a taste of what is yet to come. Upon reaching California, the family becomes broke, working for nickles to provide that night's dinner. The perfect plan of having a great life in California has turned completely around and now the Joads doomed.
