《紅字》The Scarlet Letter

This tale of adultery follows the protagonist, Hester Prynne, who must bear a letter "A" on her clothing to make all the townspeople aware of her sins. The townspeople all look down on her and create an opinion of her based solely on her promiscuous act. No one bothers to look beyond the "A" and see the virtuous, charitable woman inside. On the other end of the spectrum, the Reverend Dimmsdale, Hester's partner in the act, maintain his righteous image to the town, but is internally racked by his guilty and shame.
