Death toll rises after Taiwan 6.2 quake
臺灣發生6.2級地震 死亡人數還在上升
The death toll of a 6.2 magnitude earthquake on the island of Taiwan rises to at least three as of Monday. Closed circuit television footage broadcast on local media showed visitors running out of buildings as the earthquake hit. The Sunday quake damaged roads and infrastructure, and three provincial highways were severely blocked. Significant damage was also done to this traditional tea house in the city of Nantou. The quake struck almost 40 kilometers southeast of T'ai-chung city. It also rattled the island's capital of Taipei. Taiwan sits near the so-called ring of fire region of seismic activity around the Pacific Ocean.

Record floods hit parts of Europe
歐洲國部分家遭歷史性特大洪水
Onlookers gather at a vista point overlooking the record flooding in the German city of Passau. The Danube's water level reached a record high of 12.2 metres there on Monday, last seen in the 16th century. Meanwhile, the worst floods to hit the Czech Republic in a decade have disrupted public transport and forced school closures. And there is no end in sight to the rising water levels on the Vltava River that cuts through Prague's historic centre. The subway network was also halted for the first time since massive floods submerged the city in 2002 and caused billions of dollars of damage. Czech Prime Minister Petr Necas declared a state of emergency for most of the nation on Sunday and pledged over $15 million dollars in relief efforts.

Firefighters rush to the scene when a poultry slaughterhouse erupts in flames in northeast China. The death toll from the blaze has now been raised to at least 119. UNIDENTIFIED EMPLOYEE AT SLAUGHTERHOUSE, SAYING: "It was so fast, we first saw a flash, then a big "bang". We knew it was bad, so then we all ran. We didn't know what happened, we didn't know it was an explosion." China state broadcaster CCTV shows authorities trying to cope with the disaster. More than 300 workers were in the plant at the time.Authorities say at least 60 people have been taken to the hospital. The exact number of people unaccounted is still unclear. China's record on fire safety has come under increased scrutiny. Fire exits in factories are often locked or blocked and regulations can be easily skirted by bribing officials.
