雙城故事：
就在這時，一直暗暗愛慕露茜的律師助手卡登(Sydney Carton)來到巴黎，買通獄卒，混進監獄，頂替了達雷，梅尼特父女早已準備就緒，達雷一到，馬上出發。一行人順利地離開法國。 德法奇太太(Madame Defarge)在達雷被判決后，又到梅尼特住所搜捕無辜的露茜及其幼女，在與女仆普洛絲的爭斗中，因自己槍支走火而斃命。而斷頭臺上，卡登為了愛情，成全別人，從容獻身。
