“We're done for!” he moaned as the ceiling sagged, but suddenly the floor of the car was vibrating — the engine had restarted.
“我們完了！”他看著車頂塌陷下來，呻吟道。可是車底突然震動起來——引擎重新發動了。
“Reverse!” Harry yelled, and the car shot backward; the tree was still trying to hit them;
“倒車！”哈利大喊，汽車嗖地朝后退去。那棵樹還想打他們，
they could hear its roots creaking as it almost ripped itself up, lashing out at them as they sped out of reach.
拼命用枝條朝迅速逃離的車子抽來。它彎著身子向前夠著，幾乎把樹干都要撕裂了。他們能聽見樹根在嘎吱作響。
“That,” panted Ron, “was close. Well done, car —”
“媽呀，真懸哪。”羅恩氣喘吁吁地說，“好樣的，汽車。”
The car, however, had reached the end of its tether.
可是，汽車的忍耐已經到了極限。
With two sharp clunks, the doors flew open and Harry felt his seat tip sideways:
嘭嘭兩聲，車門彈開，哈利感到座椅朝旁邊一歪，
Next thing he knew he was sprawled on the damp ground.
還沒弄清是怎么回事，他已經趴在潮濕的土地上了。
Loud thuds told him that the car was ejecting their luggage from the trunk;
重重的響聲告訴他汽車把他們的行李也拋出來了。
Hedwig's cage flew through the air and burst open; she rose out of it with an angry screech and sped off toward the castle without a backward look.
海德薇的籠子飛到空中，籠門開了，它飛出來，憤怒地高叫一聲，頭也不回地朝城堡飛去。
Then, dented, scratched, and steaming, the car rumbled off into the darkness, its rear lights blazing angrily.
然后，汽車帶著遍體的傷痕和大坑，冒著蒸氣，隆隆駛進黑暗中，尾燈還在憤怒地閃耀著。
“Come back!” Ron yelled after it, brandishing his broken wand.
“回來！”羅恩揮舞著破魔杖在它后面喊，
“Dad'll kill me!”
“爸爸會殺了我的！”
But the car disappeared from view with one last snort from its exhaust.
可是汽車的排氣管最后噴了一口氣，消失在視線之外。
“Can you believe our luck?” said Ron miserably, bending down to pick up Scabbers.
“你能相信有這么倒霉的運氣嗎？”羅恩苦著臉說道，俯身抱起他的老鼠斑斑，
“Of all the trees we could've hit, we had to get one that hits back.”
“那么多的樹，咱們偏偏撞上了會打人的那棵。”
He glanced over his shoulder at the ancient tree, which was still flailing its branches threateningly.
他回頭看著那棵古樹，它還在威脅地揮動著它的枝條。
“Come on,” said Harry wearily, “we'd better get up to the school. . . .”
“走吧，”哈利疲憊地說，“咱們最好進學校去……”
