When they flew back beneath the clouds a little while later, they had to squint through the darkness for alandmark they knew.
過了一會(huì)兒，他們又飛到云層之下，瞇起眼在黑暗中尋找一個(gè)熟悉的地面目標(biāo)。
“There!” Harry shouted, making Ron and Hedwig jump.
“那兒！”哈利喊道，把羅恩和海德薇都嚇了一跳，
“Straight ahead!”
“就在前面！”
Silhouetted on the dark horizon, high on the cliff over the lake, stood the many turrets and towers ofHogwarts castle.
在黑暗的地平線上，在湖對(duì)面高高的懸崖頂端，聳立著霍格沃茨城堡的角樓和高塔的剪影。
But the car had begun to shudder and was losing speed.
可是汽車開始顫抖并逐漸減速。
“Come on,” Ron said cajolingly, giving the steering wheel a little shake, “nearly there, come on—”
“幫幫忙，”羅恩好言好語地哄勸著，并輕輕地?fù)u了搖方向盤，“差不多到了，幫幫忙—”
The engine groaned. Narrow jets of steam were issuing from under the hood.
引擎呻吟著，引擎罩下噴出股股蒸氣。
Harry found himself gripping the edges of his seat very hard as they flew toward the lake.
他們朝湖上飛去時(shí)，哈利不禁攥緊了座椅邊沿。
The car gave a nasty wobble. Glancing out of his window, Harry saw the smooth, black, glassy surface of thewater, a mile below.
汽車劇烈地?fù)u晃了一下。哈利瞥了一眼窗外，看見了一英里之下平靜漆黑、光滑如鏡的水面。
Ron’s knuckles were white on the steering wheel.
羅恩握著方向盤的手指節(jié)都發(fā)白了。
The car wobbled again.
汽車又搖晃起來。
“Come on,” Ron muttered.
“幫幫忙。”羅恩喃喃道。
They were over the lake — the castle was right ahead — Ron put his foot down.
他們飛過湖面……城堡就在前頭……羅恩踩下油門。
There was a loud clunk, a splutter, and the engine died completely.
哐啷一響，接著噼啪一聲，引擎徹底熄火了。
“Uh-oh,” said Ron, into the silence.
“哎呀。”羅恩在一片寂靜中說。
The nose of the car dropped. They were falling, gathering speed, heading straight for the solid castle wall.
車頭朝下一傾，他們開始?jí)嬄洌俣仍絹碓娇欤背潜さ膰鷫ψ踩ァ?/div>
“Noooooo!” Ron yelled, swinging the steering wheel around;
“不—！”羅恩大喊道，拼命轉(zhuǎn)動(dòng)方向盤。
they missed the dark stone wall by inches as the car turned in a great arc,
汽車拐了一個(gè)大圓弧，擦墻而過，
soaring over the dark greenhouses, then the vegetable patch, and then out over the black lawns, losing altitudeall the time.
飛過黑暗的溫室、菜地，飛到外面黑色的草坪上方，一直在墜落。
Ron let go of the steering wheel completely and pulled his wand out of his back pocket—
羅恩干脆放開方向盤，從背后的衣袋里拔出魔杖。
“STOP! STOP!” he yelled, whacking the dashboard and the windshield,
“停下！停下！”他抽打著儀表板和擋風(fēng)玻璃高喊，
but they were still plummeting, the ground flying up toward them—
可是他們還是在快速下落，地面向他們撲來……
“WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!” Harry bellowed, lunging for the steering wheel, but too late—
“當(dāng)心那棵樹！”哈利大叫，撲過去抓方向盤，可是太晚—
CRUNCH.
