【語法用法】
around和round相似，均作副詞和介詞用。美國人習慣用around，如下列各例句：
He turned around.Like the moon, the artificial satellites move around the earth.
I went around to the post-office.
Around 800 men came.
英國人習慣用round，如上面的前三個例句，他們習慣把around改成round，而最后一句，則改成about。
around有一些固定的搭配，如around and about，around and above，all around等。而有時不可用around，如winter comes around，all the year around，win one around等；
round與around的比較：
round常指在圈內或者曲線上的移動或定位。
She walked round the car and looked at the wheels.
英國人還常用round作“去到一個地方的每個部分”或“分東西給組里的每個人”。
We walked round the old part of the town.
Could you pass the cups round, please?
而around則指不明確的，模糊的移動或定位。
The children were running around/about everywhere.
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: I prefer being around people.
訂正: I prefer having people around me.
翻譯: 我更偏向有人圍繞在我的身邊。
分析: 這里顛倒了不可倒置的習語。
【詞義辨析】
1.about, around, round
這些詞均有“在周圍、在附近”之意。
about既可表靜態，也可表動態。
around主要用于美國，靜態或動態均可。
round主要用于英國，多半指動態。
2.almost, nearly, about, approximately, around, roughly
這些副詞均有“大約，差不多”之意。
almost指在程度上相差很小，差不多。
nearly與almost含義基本相同，側重指數量、時間或空間上的接近。
about常可分almost和nearly換用，但about用于表示時間、數量的“大約”時，實際數量可能多也可能少。
approximately多用于書面語，指精確度接近某個標準以致誤差可忽略不計。
around多用于非正式場合，常見于美國英語。
roughly指按粗略估計，常代替about。

I'll send someone to show you around.

It'll be finished around Christmas.

【詞義辨析】
1.bright, brilliant, glowing, radiant, luminous
這些形容詞均含有“明亮的”之意。
bright常用詞，與昏暗相對應，側重形容光線的強度，指一切自身發光明亮或反射光的事物。
brilliant指非常亮或亮得引人注目，多含閃耀或反光閃爍之意。
glowing指穩定光源發出的明亮持久的光，或燃燒最后階段產生的紅光。
radiant側重光線的發散，也可指像太陽或星星一樣發光的東西。
luminous著重指發出持續穩定的亮光；可指在黑暗中的發光物。
2.bright, clever, wise, brilliant, intelligent, ingenious, smart, shrewd
這些形容詞均含有“聰明的”之意。
bright口語常用詞，多指年輕人，尤指小孩思路敏捷，理解力強，機靈等。
clever強調頭腦靈活，接受新事物快，有智有謀，但不一定暗示全面妥當地考慮問題。
wise側重不是一般的聰明伶俐，而是有遠見，有智慧，能明智地處理問題。
brilliant指人的才華出眾，思路敏捷，常令人贊嘆不已。
intelligent正式用詞，指在理解新的、抽象東西或處理解決問題時，智力超過一般常人。
ingenious指思路敏捷，并暗示有創造與發明的才能和技巧。
smart普通用詞，與bright和clever的意思很相近，但更強調機靈。
shrewd指精明老練，有頭腦，善于判斷和把握有利機會。
