不過，這些說法很口語；正式的說法是：

總統、主席；總理、首相
雖然中文叫法因國而異，不過基本上英語談國家領導人，就會用這兩個詞：

Prime Minister (也常縮寫為PM): 首相，總理

但是，有個例外：
Chancellor: 德國總理用這個詞
