Spencer跟中國的緣分起源于兒時最好的朋友是美籍華裔。后來大學組織來中國游學，也讓他大開眼界，由此開啟了他的中國情緣。
What brought you to China?: 你當初為什么會來中國？
That's a loaded question: 這問題很復雜 (如果一個問題暗藏玄機、別有用心，也可以說是a loaded question)
When I was a kid, my best friend was a Chinese kid: 我小時候最好的朋友是中國人
Because of that, I was always interested in China: 因此，我一直對中國很感興趣
I first came to China on a short-term study-abroad program in college, but it was only for a month: 第一次來中國是大學時期的一次短期游學，但只來了一個月
It was just something so different than what I knew: 在中國的所見所聞讓我大開眼界
China kinda smacked me in the face with how different it was: 中國的與眾不同深深震撼了我

中美工作機會

career prospects: 職業前景
The Chinese market is so dynamic and the growth is really robust: 中國經濟充滿活力，增長強勁
The Chinese economy dwarfs most of the developed economies: 中國經濟把絕大部分發達國家都比下去了 (dwarf這個詞作為名詞的意思是侏儒，作為動詞的意思就是把另一個遠遠比下去了)
There're a lot of different opportunities; overall, it's very exciting for me: 機會很多，總的來說，我覺得很新鮮很刺激
The things I get to do here, I don't really think I can do them back at home: 我在中國收獲的經歷美國恐怕無法給予我
For example, being a host at OpenLanguage and producing great content for you guys:比如成為開言主播，給大家做好內容
It's a different way of living: 是完全不同的一種生活方式

朝九晚五 or 出去闖闖？
即便同樣在中國做一份朝九晚五的工作，周遭每天都有新鮮事，生活也因此多了一份情調。
There're a lot of people in the West, me included, who are turned off by the idea of a conventional life characterized by a 9-to-5 job where you just repeat the cycle of getting up, going to work and going home: 西方很多人，包括我在內，特別厭倦這種一成不變、朝九晚五的工作和生活
Even if you have a 9-to-5 job here in China, at least the scenery and environment are totally different: 在中國即使是干一份朝九晚五的工作，所見所聞以及周遭的事物也是不同的
So there's still some sort of stimulation: 生活也因此更刺激、更新鮮
There're also a lot of unexpected opportunities: 也有很多意想不到的機遇
There're still things here that aren't quite as established as they are back in the States: 不像美國，中國有很多東西還沒有定型
You come here and do something that's already been done in the States but hasn't been done here yet: 可以來中國做一個在美國已經有人做，但在中國還沒人做的事

中美收入、支出對比
可能光看工資單，中國的薪酬并沒有美國高，但在中國生活成本比較低，對于生活自律的人來說，反而能攢下更多積蓄。
Be it in China or in America, how much you get paid definitely depends on what you do: 不管是在中國還是在美國，賺多少都跟干什么工作有關
Given that I have a Master's degree, I do think if I were back in the States right now doing whatever 9-to-5 job I have, overall I'd be making more money: 我有碩士學位，所以如果我在美國找一份朝九晚五的工作，薪資應該比現在高
But my expenses would be more: 但開銷也會更大
This is kind of a trade-off: 有得必有失
Money's important, but it's not everything: 錢很重要，但錢不是萬能的
The life experience I've gained by living here is invaluable: 在中國的生活經歷是錢換不來的
In real dollar terms, you might be making a little bit less, but you actually have more disposable income: 光看錢的話，在中國收入可能比美國低，但可支配收入實際上更多
We're netting more money: 實際到手的錢更多
I have more savings at the moment than I ever had: 我的積蓄比在美國時多

中美生活對比：熱鬧、方便、治安
中國的熱鬧和方便絕對是美國大多數地區不能比的。另外，也有很多美國人覺得中國治安更好。很多美國人都覺得晚上出門不太安全，在中國就不太會有這樣的顧慮。
Living within the inner ring here in Shanghai is even more convenient late at night: 住在上海內環內的話晚上更加方便
public transportation system: 公共交通系統
Big cities have very condensed populations: 大城市人口相對集中
China is definitely more lively/more stuff going on/more happening: 中國肯定是更熱鬧
Gun ownership is a right guaranteed in the US Constitution, but it's also caused a lot of problems: 槍支持有權是美國憲法規定的權利，但也造成了不少問題
public safety: 治安
Going out alone late at night is not considered very safe in the States regardless of yourgender: 不管是男是女，在美國半夜獨自出門總歸是不安全的
For most parts, Shanghai is pretty safe: 總體來講，上海真的挺安全的

中美戀愛對比
在中國約會戀愛是不是也更有聲有色呢？許多初到上海的老外都會覺得眼花繚亂、目不暇接，但Spencer作為一個“資深老外”表示，重要的是質量不是數量，所以要找到一個情投意合的伴侶也并不是件容易的事。
Many foreigners feel even love life is more exciting in China: 很多外國人覺得在中國的愛情生活也更加精彩
When I first came, I was in my honeymoon period, so I was more optimistic and excited: 我剛來中國時，在那段蜜月期內，（戀愛）心態也特別樂觀、特別激動
Maybe I've been longing for somebody more culturally similar to me：現在可能我更渴望一個在文化上跟我比較接近的伴侶
Lately, I don't share that sentiment as much as I used to: 所以現在我的感覺、看法跟以前也不太一樣
The dating scene: 戀愛、約會氛圍
It's hard to find people who click with you on an intellectual level: 要找到一個跟你有心靈撞擊的對象很難
I don't think that has anything to do with China; China's always been China and will always be China: 我覺得這不是中國的原因；中國一直就是中國，以后也還是
It has more to do with me and my personal wants: 這更大程度上是我個人的原因和想法
This doesn't mean other foreigners can't find things like satisfaction or love here: 我也不是說其他外國人在中國就不能收獲一份滿意的愛情
When I first came here, I thought to myself, “Oh my God, there's beautiful women everywhere”: 剛到中國時，我心想：“天啊，這里美女也太多了吧”
But it's not about the quantity; it's about the quality: 但重要的是質量、而不是數量
Maybe it's becasue you've matured, so your take on things is different: 也許是因為你更成熟了，所以看事情的角度也不一樣了
Yes, you have access to more people: （在中國）你也許能遇見更多人
I highly value quality now: 但現在的我非常注重質量
