在今天的課堂上，我們學習的內容是與acquaintance相關的一個Idiom。如果我們要表示meet someone for the first time（初次與某人相見，結識某人），我們可以用到這個Idiom：make someone’s acquaintance/make the acquaintance of someone. 我們通過下面的例句來看看它的運用：
e.g. I am delighted and honored to make your acquaintance, Ms. Baker. Baker夫人，與您相識，我感到很高興和榮幸。
e.g. I made the acquaintance of several famous musicians around that time. 大約在那段時間，我結識了幾位著名的音樂家。
在Example-1中，make your acquaintance的意思是“與您相識”。Acquaintance前面是物主代詞your。由此可見，如果我們用物主代詞來表示相識的對象，用make one’s acquaintance。Of course, we can also say “to make the acquaintance of you”。如果我們把物主代詞改為人稱代詞的賓格形式，就可以使用 make the acquaintance of someone這個結構。
在Example-2中，made the acquaintance of several famous musicians意思是與幾位著名的音樂家相識。如果表示相識的對象是名詞的時候，可用make the acquaintance of someone這個結構，在例句中是這樣使用。Of course, we can also say “to make several musicians’ acquaintance”。所以，如果是用名詞來表示相識的對象，make someone's acquaintance和make the acquaintance of someone這兩個結構都可以使用。
在口語中，我們初見到某人時，經常說：I am glad to meet you. /It is nice to meet you. 等等。今天，我們學了這個idiom，用它也可表達同樣的意思。例如：
e.g. It 's a pleasure to make your acquaintance . 認識你我很高興。
e.g. I'm honored to make your acquaintance. 認識你是我的榮幸。
