我們從上一講知道,有七個孩子跟著老師在山里徒步旅行,迷了路。在這一講里,我們可以聽到老師Bradley先生和兩個學生Peter和James在山上的對話。下面是他們的一部分對話。

PETER: Hey! I can hear it.I can hear the waterfall.
MR BRADLEY: Don't. run, Peter. You'll fall.
PETER: But I can hear the waterfall. Listen. Can't you hear it?
MR BRADLEY: Peter, don't run. The rocks are slippery. You'll fall.
PETER: No, it's O.K. I won't fall. I'll be right.
MR BRADLEY: Peter!
PETER: Come on!I can hear it! Oh, oh, James. James, I've hurt my ankle.

REPORTED SPEECH (Ⅱ)怎樣轉述別人的話(Ⅱ)
在這一講里,James向Peter的母親述說他們和老師Bradley先生在山上的情況。請看James是怎樣轉述他們在山上說過的話的。
MR BRADLEY: We've got to get out of this valley before dark... These cliffs are dangerous in the dark.
PETER: It's going to be cold tonight, by the look of things.
MR BRADLEY: We've just got to find the waterfall. I know there's a Way up the cliffs beside that waterfall.
JAMES: If we don't find it soon we'll have to find somewhere to sleep.
PETER: We can t spend the night here.I want to go home.
MR BRADLEY: Don't make a fuss, Peter. It'll be all right.We'll find a cave.
1.REPORTED STATEMENTS怎樣轉述陳述句
在轉述陳述句的時候需要注意:
a)改變時態原話:
"These cliffs are dangerous."
轉述的話:
He Said the Cliffs were dangerous.
b)改變時間狀語原話:
"It's going to be cold tonight."
轉述的話:
We knew it was going to be cold that night.(不是當天而是后來轉述的)
如果轉述時巳經超過原話里時間狀語表示的時間范圍,轉述的話里的時間狀語需作相應的改變。如未超過,則時間狀語不變。例如:
原話:
"The boys are due back today."
轉述的話:
He said the boys were due back today.
原話:
"We can't spend the night here."
轉述的話:
He said we .couldn't spend the night there.
d)轉述的時侯,主旬里不一定用say,tell之類的動詞,也可以用think,know,reckon,realize之類的動詞。例如:
原來的想法:
"He'll fall."
轉述的話:
I KNEW/THOUGHI,he'd fall.
Peter 的原話:
"I can hear the waterfall."
James轉述的話:
He RECKONED he could hear it.
James原來的想法:
"Hey,that's not a waterfall."
James原來轉述的話:
We both REALIZED it wasn't just water.
2. REPORTED ORDERS怎樣轉述祈使句。
轉述祈使句要用動詞不定式( to+動詞原形)
原話:
"Don't make a fuss,Peter."
轉述的話:
He told Peter not to make a fuss.
原話:
"Sit and wait."
轉述的話:
He said to sit and wait.
如果原話里的動詞在轉述時已在上文提到,后面則可以省略。例如:
Mr Bradley的原話:
"Peter, don't run."
James轉述的話:
When Peter started to run.
Mr Bradley told him not to (run).
第四部分:歌唱
1954年,在澳大利亞,一個四歲的孩子在山里迷了路,許多人參加搜索,終于把孩子平平安安地找了回來。后來關于這件事拍了一部電影,還編了一支歌。歌詞是:
