第一部分對話：上班的路上

兩位鄰居Taylor先生和White先生在上班的路上聊天。Taylor先生告訴White先生，他和他的妻子已經(jīng)決定搬到遠郊區(qū)去住，因為市區(qū)污染太厲害。

ASKING AND ANSWERING QUESTIONS ABOUT PIJRPOSE DR REASON目的或原因一怎樣詢問，怎樣回答
1. ASKING QUESTIONS懲樣詢問
要問別人做一件事的目的或原因，有這樣幾個現(xiàn)成的說法： Why? Why's that?What for?
例如：
A. We've decided to move to the country．
B. Oh. Have you?
或：
Have you really? Why?
Have you really? Why's that?
Have you really? What for?
在詢問的時候，如果只問Why?或Why's that? What for?會顯得很生硬，所以往往先提一個小問題，如：Have you?或Did you?
如果前面是一個否定句，詢問的時候就不用Why，而用Why not?例如：
He didn't go to the concert.
Didn't he? Why not?
2. ANSWERING SUCH QUESTIONS怎樣回答
如果存人問彌做一件事的日的或原因，你就可以用because，so that，(in order) to等詞語柴舊答。例如：
A: We've decided to move to the country.
B: Oh. Have you? Why's that?
A: (Because) the city's too noisy and crowded．
或：So that.we can have a bit more space．
或：(In order) to get some fresh air.
注意：
在回答的時候，because一詞往往省略。
to...這個說法比較隨便，多用于日常會話。in order to...比較文，多用于較為正式的場合。

第四部分：背景資料

郊區(qū)新事

我們以對話里知道，Taylor 一家之所 以要搬到Woy Woy去，是為了呼吸新鮮 空氣。在悉尼這樣的大城市里，的確存在著 空氣污染的問題，這主要是工廠和汽車造成的。澳大利亞雖然訂有規(guī)章制度，盡量控制工業(yè)生產(chǎn)排出的煙塵稻汽車排出的一氧化碳城市里的煙霧還是很嚴重。許多人為此感到擔憂，有的人寧愿搬家，搬到空氣比較新鮮的郊區(qū)去。
誠然，人們搬離市區(qū)是有各種原因的，躲避污染不過是其中一個原因。有的人搬到離市區(qū)不太遠的地方，這樣他們每天仍然可以到市區(qū)去上班。這種每天要跑相當一段路程去上班的人叫做commuters。也有的人喜歡住在更安靜的地方，他們就搬到遠郊區(qū)去住，不過到城里來上班就顯得太遠了。
*Woy Woy是土著居民給這個地方起的名字，意思是成水湖。澳大利亞有許多地名來源于土著居民的
語言，例如：Wagga Wagga, Wollongong, Woolloomooloo。
