French leave 不告而別
典故：法國人都喜歡不告而別？并非如此，但是在18世紀，法國人性格隨便，性情浪漫，在參加宴會等一切社交聚會時，養成了不向主人告別就擅自離去的習慣。在《牛津字典》中的解釋，to take French leave is to go away, or do anything, without permission or notice。所以我們把French leave翻譯成不告而別。有趣的是，英法兩國的文化還真的有種爭鋒相對的味道，連語言也不例外。在法語中，同樣有個短語fileràl'anglaise（take English leave）表達相同的概念。French leave特別用于表達“擅離職守”的概念（the act of leisurely absence from a military unit），這同樣與17-18世紀的英法戰爭史有關。
