可可網(wǎng)友們大家好。上期我們集中學(xué)習(xí)了幾個表示能夠很好“理解”的短語，Read between the lines, 讀透字里行間的含義；get the hang of something理解某事；摸清概況；know something / someone inside out. 對某事，某人透徹地認(rèn)識、理解。不過，我們總會遇到無法理解，或者理解有誤的情況，這時(shí)我們需要了解以下幾個短語。

Rule of thumb 僅憑簡單經(jīng)驗(yàn)理解的

我們通過兩個例子來體會它的含義。The rule of thumb is liable to be cut away from the constantly-changing reality. 這種單憑經(jīng)驗(yàn)來做的方法很有可能與不斷變化的現(xiàn)實(shí)脫節(jié)。
Remember the rule of thumb: if you wouldn't want to download it yourself, don't share it. 記得不成文的經(jīng)驗(yàn)法則：請別共享你自己都不會想去下載的東西。

有時(shí)候，我們認(rèn)為自己理解了，可事實(shí)卻相差很遠(yuǎn)。這個時(shí)候您可以用there's more to something / someone than meets the eye來表示“某事或某人并不像初看到的那樣簡單”。這里，more than meets the eye意思是more than what your eye actually sees. 比如這個例子。
He doesn't seem too intelligent at first, but there's more to him than meets the eye. He is actually a rocket scientist. 乍一看上去他不是那么聰明，但是事實(shí)并不是這樣。他其實(shí)是一個火箭專家。

最后我們再來看看完全不能理解的情況。這個時(shí)候我們可以用out of your depth “超出所能理解的”這個短語來表示。Depth，深度。我們來看兩個例子：

I went to a lecture on relativity, but I was out of my depth. 我去聽了一場有關(guān)相對論的演講，但根本摸不到頭腦。
The student was out of his depth in discussion on the Middle Ages. 那個學(xué)生對關(guān)于中世紀(jì)的討論感到難以理解。
