除了胃部可感吉兇，西方人據說連腸子都可以，例如：When the doctor beckoned me into his office, I had a feeling in my guts（或a gut feeling) that there was something seriously wrong with my wife.（醫生用手勢招呼我進他的辦公室時，我直覺上感到妻子身體一定有嚴重問題）。A gut feeling / instinct. 就是‘無法解釋的直覺’。
西方人甚至連骨頭都對吉兇有感應。To know / feel in one's bones. 也是說‘有一種無法解釋的直覺’，例如：I feel it in my bones that something disastrous is going to happen.（我直覺上感到大難將臨）。
‘直覺’或‘預感’，英文還可叫hunch，即sixth sense（第六感），例如：I had a hunch.（或My sixth sense told me) that an earthquake would soon hit Tokyo.（我預感東京快將地震）。
