以“21世紀(jì)聯(lián)合國的作用”為議題而舉行的聯(lián)合國千年首腦會議，2000年9月8日通過《千年宣言》后閉幕了。這是一次史無前例的規(guī)模最大的一次首腦會議，來自包括新加入聯(lián)合國的圖瓦盧在內(nèi)的189個成員國的150多位國家元首和首腦出席了這次會議。發(fā)達國家和發(fā)展中國家集聚在一起，背負(fù)著多種多樣的文明和價值觀的領(lǐng)導(dǎo)人會聚一堂，具有深遠的歷史意義。中國作為維護世界和平的主流力量在這一盛會中，又是怎樣的一種態(tài)度呢？

[1] Chinese President Jiang Zemin on Wednesday called for the strengthening of the United Nations’ positive『積極的；確定的；實在的』role, and the defense of the world body’s authority, in the new century. In a speech delivered『發(fā)表；講；宣布』at the U. N. Millennium Summit『千年首腦會議』, Jiang said that the organization’s “positive role must be strengthened and not weakened and its authority defended and not jeopardized『使處于危險境地；危及；損害』.”
