Message on World Malaria Day

世界防治瘧疾日致辭

World Malaria Day is an opportunity to celebrate the fact that the world is on track to meet the global Millennium Development Goal target of reversing the incidence of malaria.

扭轉(zhuǎn)瘧疾發(fā)病率是全球千年發(fā)展目標(biāo)的指標(biāo)之一，值此世界防治瘧疾日，我們高興地看到這項(xiàng)工作正在順利進(jìn)行。

I applaud the many committed partners whose concerted efforts have saved well over 3 million lives since 2000. The global malaria mortality rate has been reduced by more than 40 per cent and many countries have successfully moved closer to eliminating the disease.

我對許多堅(jiān)定的伙伴表示贊揚(yáng)，2000年來他們的一致努力拯救了300多萬人的生命。全球瘧疾死亡率下降超過40%，許多國家正在順利接近消滅瘧疾的目標(biāo)。

Preventing and treating malaria ensures that more children are well enough to stay in school, learn skills and grow into productive members of society. This spares human suffering, increases household income and contributes to economic development.

防治瘧疾可以增強(qiáng)更多兒童的體魄，使他們能夠上學(xué)、學(xué)習(xí)技能并成為社會的有用成員。防治瘧疾能夠消除人類苦難、增加家庭收入并促進(jìn)經(jīng)濟(jì)發(fā)展。

While we applaud progress to date, we must confront the fact that malaria still kills more than half a million people every year. Most of these people are still small children, under five years old, living in sub-Saharan Africa. Too many cases still go untested, unregistered and untreated.

我們?yōu)槠袢〉玫倪M(jìn)展而歡呼，但是我們必須正視這一事實(shí)，即每年仍有超過50萬人死于瘧疾，而其中的多數(shù)是生活在撒哈拉南部非洲不足五歲的嬰幼兒。還有許多疾病病例沒有得到檢測、登記和治療。

Today, I repeat my call for continued investment and sustained political commitment, and will to improve malaria prevention and control. We need more funding to maintain progress and continue scaling up coverage of effective malaria interventions. We need more resources to develop and maintain effective surveillance programmes and to combat increasing mosquito resistance to insecticides and parasite resistance to antimalarial drugs.

今天，我再次發(fā)出呼吁，為了加強(qiáng)瘧疾的防控，必須繼續(xù)提供投入并展示出持久的政治承諾和意愿。

我們需要更多的資金，來保持我們?nèi)〉玫倪M(jìn)展，并繼續(xù)擴(kuò)大有效防治瘧疾的覆蓋。我們需要更多的資源，來制定和維持有效的檢測計(jì)劃，應(yīng)對蚊子對殺蟲劑的抵抗力并應(yīng)對寄生蟲對抗瘧疾藥品的抵抗力。

On this World Malaria Day, let us renew our collective commitment to combat malaria and ultimately defeat this deadly disease.

值此世界防治瘧疾日，讓我們再次作出集體承諾，繼續(xù)開展瘧疾防治工作，直至最終消滅這一吞噬人類生命的疾病。
