Hello, I'm James Leape, Director General of WWF of International. WWF, the global conservation organization was founded in 1961. Today we are working over a hundred countries with five million supporters around the world. Our mission is to find ways for people to live in harmony with nature.
WWF was the first global conservaton organization to be invited to work in China in 1980. We opened our office in Beijing in 1996 and today we have offices in eight other cities across the country. We work to save China the most extraordinary ecosystems from Amur-Heilong forests along the Russian boarder to the Yangtze River basin, to the Tibetan Plateau. With our government partners, we have helped to create more than sixty reserves to protect the giant panda, have also worked to start environmental education programs and helped business develop sustainable practices.
As we look forward to the Shanghai Expo, we look forward to the opportunity to celebrate 30 years working in this extraordinary country and to help people understand the conservation challenges this country faces and great progress that has already been made. We hope to inspire people to take action on climate change, to find ways to protect the habitats upon which wild life depends, and to find a way to use our forest resources more sutainably.
I hope you join us at the Shanghai Expo. The WWF Pavilion will give you a chance to learn more about climate change, about how we can reserve freshwater and forest resources, about your ecological footprints, and of course about tigers and pandas. There will be many exciting activities throughout the life of the Expo, and especially on June 5th, because June 5th at the expo will be the WWF Day, and not coincidentally World Environment Day. It's time for us to celebrate 30 years working in China and I hope you make a point of being there. Thank you.
