A clean escape
Butch had beenblunderingwith theblueprintsof the factory looking for an exit when an explosion in thebleachingroomblastedhim out of the main hall, through a window and into a patch of roseblossoms. As he lay therebleedingonly slightly he realized that he had been blessed by the blast; in theblinkof an eye he had been thrown from the scene of the crime that he had committed. He was also unburned by the hotbiodegradable bleachthat had covered his body. Bless you St. Peter, he thought.
He quickly moved toblendinto the vegetation even more. Policemen had arrived and the vegetationblockedthem from seeing Butch. Thank God the roses were inbloom. Without thebloomingflowers he would surely have been seen. They didn' t even hesitate as they looked in his direction with blank expressions.
Butch stared, still amazed at his luck. He was no longerbitterat his employers. There would be no way they couldblamehim for the explosion, it wasn't his fault. And the fire it had started was sure to destroy all evidence of his stealing valuable stock from the accountants' office. It had not been abilateraldecision with his wife to steal those documents, but Butch realized that what was once ableakfuture was now, because of abizarreaccident, like a bill of freedom for Butch He would be able to walk away rich, innocent of any suspicion and no longer bound to work with an employer that had almost ruined his life and marriage.
Maybe he wouldn't even tell his wife that he had succeeded....
