Sinclair was born in Surrey, England, on 30 July 1940.

He spent much of his childhood with his grandfather and father, who were both engineers.

As a result, he began designing and making things when he was very young.

Sinclair was mostly self-educated, preferring to spend time studying by himself rather than at school with classmates.

By the time he was ten years old,

After high school, he decided that university would teach him nothing new.
