As they had agreed, the Green Knight took the axe.

He was going to cut off Sir Gawain's head, when suddenly he stopped.

He tried a second time, but again stopped.
他試了第二次，但又一次停住了。
The third time, he cut Sir Gawain's neck a little, but didn't hurt him.
第三次，他稍微砍了高文爵士的脖子一下，但是沒有傷害他。
Sir Gawain was angry.
高文爵士很生氣。
He said: "Why did you try three times?
他說：“你為什么試了三次？
We agreed only once!"
我們約好只有一次！”
The Green Knight told him that he was, in fact, the lord of the castle.
綠衣騎士告訴他，事實(shí)上他就是城堡的主人。
"I didn't cut you the first two times because you were honest for two days!
“前兩次我沒有砍你是因?yàn)槟闱皟商焓钦\實(shí)的！
But on the third day, you didn't tell me about the belt.
但是在第三天，你沒有告訴我腰帶的事。
So I had to cut you!"
所以我必須砍你！”
Sir Gawain returned to King Arthur's court.
高文爵士回到了亞瑟王的宮廷。
He was sad because he had not been honest.
他很沮喪因?yàn)樗徽\實(shí)。
He decided to wear the belt around his neck for the rest of his life.
他決定余生都把那條腰帶戴在他的脖子上。
He told King Arthur: "When I become arrogant,
他告訴亞瑟王：“當(dāng)我變得驕傲?xí)r，
I can look at the belt and remember that I am not a perfect knight."
我可以看看這條腰帶，記住我不是一個(gè)完美的騎士。”
