Lesson 7: What Is the Meaning of Life?
第七課：生命的意義是什么？
After the history class, Li Ming sits in the classroom, deep in thought.
歷史課后，李明坐在教室里，正陷入沉思中。
Wang Mei comes in and the two start a dialogue.
王梅走進(jìn)來，兩人開始了對話。
Hi Li Ming. What are you thinking about?
你好，李明。你在想什么呢？
Oh, hi Wang Mei. I was just thinking...
噢，你好，王梅。我剛剛正在想……
What is the meaning of life? Do you ever wonder about that?
生命的意義是什么？你曾想過這個(gè)問題嗎？
Oh, I see. You are thinking about your purpose in life.
噢，我明白了。你正想你生活的目的是什么？
Yes, I think about that sometimes. But I also wonder about other things.
是的，我偶爾會想一想。但是，我也想知道其他的事情。
For example, why are great people so successful? And how can we succeed in life?
比如，為什么偉大的人們會那么成功？我們怎樣才能獲得成功呢？
Those are good questions, too. But... what is success?
那些也都是些好問題。但是……成功是什么？
And how do you know if you've succeeded?
你怎樣判斷自己是否成功呢？
Does it mean that you have a good job? Does it mean that you are rich and famous?
成功是不是意味著你有份好工作？意味著你很富有、很有名呢？
Those are all really important questions and very difficult to answer.
那些都是重要的、不易回答的難題。我不確定怎樣回答它們，
I'm not sure how to answer them, but I think we should try our best to live a good and happy life.
但是我想我們應(yīng)該盡全力過上幸福美好的生活。
That sounds right to me. My dad always says that we should be good to others.
對我來說也是。我爸爸經(jīng)常說，我們應(yīng)該對別人友善。
Exactly! If we are living a happy life, but the people around us aren't,
非常正確！如果我們生活幸福，但是周圍人并不幸福，
is that a good life? I'm not so sure... It seems like something is missing.
那算是幸福生活嗎？我不確定……它看起來好像缺少點(diǎn)什么。

Let's write these questions down and then survey our parents,
我們把這些問題寫下來，然后在父母、
friends and neighbours about their thoughts.
