M: Jessica, do you know something about the Ethical Consumer Research Association?
男：杰西卡，你知道道德消費(fèi)者研究協(xié)會(huì)嗎？
W: Yes. As far as I am concerned, it's an organization that provides information for shoppers, like letting shoppers know what the companies are doing behind the products that they see on the store shelves. And, these shoppers are concerned with some ethical issues.
女：知道。據(jù)我所知，那是一個(gè)為購(gòu)物者提供信息的組織，比如讓購(gòu)物者知道生產(chǎn)商在他們所看到的貨架上的產(chǎn)品背后都做了些什么。而且，這些購(gòu)物者比較關(guān)心某些道德問(wèn)題。
M: Could you give me some examples?

W: Well, they may want to know that the product they are buying hasn't been made at the expense of people who are producing it, whether it's in this country or abroad. They might also be concerned with other kinds of issues, for example, whether the company is involved in selling arms.
女：嗯，他們想知道他們購(gòu)買(mǎi)的商品是不是傷害了其生產(chǎn)者的利益、商品的產(chǎn)地是國(guó)內(nèi)還是國(guó)外。他們可能還會(huì)關(guān)心一些其他問(wèn)題，比如，企業(yè)是否牽涉販賣(mài)武器。
M: But how can one become an ethical shopper when buying things?
男：但是人們?cè)谫?gòu)物時(shí)如何能成為一個(gè)道德購(gòu)物者呢？
W: One way of thinking about ethical shopping is thinking about buying less. Well you see, sometimes we buy a lot more than we need. We buy more items of clothing than we need. So being an ethical shopper really means thinking a bit before you go and spend your money in the shops.
女：一種道德購(gòu)物的方式就是少買(mǎi)不必要的商品。你知道，有時(shí)候我們會(huì)買(mǎi)很多超出需要的東西。我們買(mǎi)的衣服超出我們的需求。所以作為一個(gè)道德購(gòu)物者，就意味著去商店花錢(qián)之前要好好想一下。
M: Could you give me some advice?
男：你能給我一些建議嗎？
W: You see, something may cost a bit more in the short run, but be worth it in the long run. So if you are paying for quality, something will last you longer and then save you money. And sometimes you can buy things second-hand and the quality in most second-hand shops is really very good these days. So it's about thinking before you shop.
女：有些東西在短期內(nèi)可能花費(fèi)較大，但是長(zhǎng)期看來(lái)又很值得。所以如果你看重質(zhì)量的話(huà)，你買(mǎi)的東西就會(huì)耐用又省錢(qián)。有時(shí)可以買(mǎi)二手東西，很多二手商店的東西質(zhì)量也很不錯(cuò)。所以購(gòu)物之前要想一想。
