The seer was a specialist in the casting of twigs; he threw them on the ground, and made interpretations based on how they fell.
他是個(gè)擲簽占卜的行家，簽子擲在地上，根據(jù)落地的方式作出解釋。
That day, he didn't make a cast. He wrapped the twigs in a piece of cloth and put them back in his bag.
這天他沒有擲那些簽，而是將簽子用手帕包起來(lái)，裝進(jìn)了衣袋里。
"I make my living forecasting the future for people," he said.
“我靠給人家預(yù)測(cè)未來(lái)為生。”他說(shuō)，
"I know the science of the twigs, and I know how to use them to penetrate to the place where all is written.
“我熟悉擲簽的門道，知道如何運(yùn)用它探知一切均已寫就的未來(lái)空間。
There, I can read the past, discover what has already been forgotten, and understand the omens that are here in the present."
在那里，我能夠閱讀過(guò)去，發(fā)現(xiàn)已被遺忘的東西，并理解當(dāng)前的預(yù)兆。”
"When people consult me, it's not that I'm reading the future; I am guessing at the future.
“當(dāng)人們來(lái)找我占卜的時(shí)候，我不是閱讀未來(lái)，而是卜算未來(lái)。
The future belongs to God, and it is only he who reveals it, under extraordinary circumstances.
因?yàn)槲磥?lái)屬于真主管轄，只有在特殊情況下，他才會(huì)掲示。
How do I guess at the future? Based on the omens of the present. The secret is here in the present.
我卜算未來(lái)的方式，是通過(guò)當(dāng)前的預(yù)兆。秘密就在當(dāng)前。
If you pay attention to the present, you can improve upon it.
如果關(guān)注現(xiàn)在，你就能改善它。
And, if you improve on the present, what comes later will also be better.
如果改善了現(xiàn)在，那么，將來(lái)也會(huì)變得更好。
Forget about the future, and live each day according to the teachings, confident that God loves his children.
忘掉未來(lái)吧，你要按照教義過(guò)好每一天，相信真主會(huì)護(hù)佑他的子民。
Each day, in itself, brings with it an eternity."
每一天里都蘊(yùn)含著永恒。”
The camel driver had asked what the circumstances were under which God would allow him to see the future.
趕駝人想知道真主在什么情況下允許人們看到未來(lái)。
"Only when he, himself, reveals it. And God only rarely reveals the future. When he does so, it is for only one reason: it's a future that was written so as to be altered."
“真主極少掲示未來(lái)，他想揭示未來(lái)的時(shí)候，才會(huì)行動(dòng)，而理由只有一個(gè)：那是個(gè)注定要被改變的未來(lái)。”
God had shown the boy a part of the future, the camel driver thought.
真主已經(jīng)向男孩揭示了一種未來(lái)，趕駝人想，
Why was it that he wanted the boy to serve as his instrument?
真主為什么想讓男孩做他的工具呢？
"Go and speak to the tribal chieftains," said the camel driver.
“你去跟部落的頭領(lǐng)們談?wù)劇！壁s駝人說(shuō)，
"Tell them about the armies that are approaching."
“告訴他們有軍隊(duì)開來(lái)。”
"They'll laugh at me."
“他們會(huì)嘲笑我。”
"They are men of the desert, and the men of the desert are used to dealing with omens."
“他們是沙漠里的人，沙漠里的人習(xí)慣了各種預(yù)兆。”
"Well, then, they probably already know."
“那么，他們可能已經(jīng)知道了。”
"They're not concerned with that right now.
“他們不關(guān)心預(yù)兆。
They believe that if they have to know about something Allah wants them to know, someone will tell them about it.
他們相信，如果安拉想告訴他們什么，他們又必須得知道，那么就會(huì)有人講給他們聽。
It has happened many times before. But, this time, the person is you."
這種事以前發(fā)生過(guò)好多次了。不過(guò)，今天要告訴他們的人是你。”
The boy thought of Fatima. And he decided he would go to see the chiefs of the tribes.
男孩想起了法蒂瑪。于是，他決定去見部落的頭領(lǐng)們。
