Suddenly, one of the hawks made a flashing dive through the sky, attacking the other.
突然，一只鷹飛速俯沖下來，攻擊另一只鷹。
As it did so, a sudden, fleeting image came to the boy: an army, with its swords at the ready, riding into the oasis.
那一刻，一個突如其來的幻覺在男孩眼前一閃而過：一支劍拔弩張的軍隊正在進入綠洲。
The vision vanished immediately, but it had shaken him.
那幻覺瞬間便消失了，但是場面卻令他震驚。
He had heard people speak of mirages, and had already seen some himself: they were desires that, because of their intensity, materialized over the sands of the desert.
他聽別人說起過海市蜃樓，而且也見到過幾次，可那都是人們的愿望在沙漠中的體現。
But he certainly didn't desire that an army invade the oasis.
然而，他并不希望有軍隊入侵綠洲。
He wanted to forget about the vision, and return to his meditation.
他想忘掉那幻覺，重新回到原來的思緒。
He tried again to concentrate on the pink shades of the desert, and its stones.
他試圖將注意力集中在玫瑰色的沙漠和石頭上。
But there was something there in his heart that wouldn't allow him to do so.
但是，他內心深處平靜不下來。
"Always heed the omens," the old king had said.
“你要永遠遵循預兆行事。”撒冷王曾說過。
The boy recalled what he had seen in the vision, and sensed that it was actually going to occur.
他回想剛才的幻覺，預感到這件事很快就會發生。
He rose, and made his way back toward the palm trees.
他站起身，朝椰棗樹方向走去。
Once again, he perceived the many languages in the things about him: this time, the desert was safe, and it was the oasis that had become dangerous.
此時他察覺到萬物的語言：沙漠是安全之地，綠洲則為險境。
The camel driver was seated at the base of a palm tree, observing the sunset.
那個趕駝人坐在一棵椰棗樹下，觀看落日的余暉。
He saw the boy appear from the other side of the dunes.
他看到男孩從一個沙丘后面走出來。
"An army is coming," the boy said. "I had a vision."
“有一支軍隊正往這兒來。”男孩說，“我出現了幻覺。”
"The desert fills men's hearts with visions," the camel driver answered.
“是沙漠使人心里充滿幻覺。”趕駝人回答說。
But the boy told him about the hawks: that he had been watching their flight and had suddenly felt himself to have plunged to the Soul of the World.
不過，男孩還是對趕駝人講了那兩只鷹的事，說他當時正在觀察飛翔的鷹，突然就與世界之魂聯通。
