He was shaken into wakefulness by someone.
有人把圣地亞哥捅醒了。
He had fallen asleep in the middle of the marketplace, and life in the plaza was about to resume.

Looking around, he sought his sheep, and then realized that he was in a new world.

But instead of being saddened, he was happy.

He no longer had to seek out food and water for the sheep; he could go in search of his treasure, instead.

He had not a cent in his pocket, but he had faith.

He had decided, the night before, that he would be as much an adventurer as the ones he had admired in books.

He walked slowly through the marketplace.

The merchants were assembling their stalls, and the boy helped a candy seller to do his.
商販們紛紛支起售貨棚。男孩幫一位甜食商販支起貨棚，
The candy seller had a smile on his face: he was happy, aware of what his life was about, and ready to begin a day's work.
那商販臉上露出了笑容：商販很高興，在生活的激勵(lì)下，即將開始一整天的勞作。
His smile reminded the boy of the old man—the mysterious old king he had met.
笑容使男孩想起了那位老者，就是他先前認(rèn)識(shí)的那位神秘的王。
"This candy merchant isn't making candy so that later he can travel or marry a shopkeeper's daughter.
這個(gè)甜食商販沒有制作甜食，因?yàn)樗肴ヂ眯校蛘呦敫粋€(gè)商人的女兒結(jié)婚；
He's doing it because it's what he wants to do," thought the boy.

He realized that he could do the same thing the old man had done—

sense whether a person was near to or far from his personal legend. Just by looking at them.

It's easy, and yet I've never done it before, he thought.
