Bitcoin took over a national news cycle Wednesday evening as scammers hacked the accounts of dozens of high-profile figures, including Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Joe Biden and Barack Obama.

They posted scam bitcoin giveaways and enticed users to send more than $100,000 to their addresses.

The scammers posted the same message, promising users who give Bitcoin to an account listed in the tweets double their payment in return, which is a common cryptocurrency scam.
