Japanese Women Sign #KuToo Petition
日本女性簽署“KuToo”請愿書
A Japanese woman has received thousands of signatures on her footwear petition. Ishikawa Yumi is accusing employers of discrimination for expecting women to wear high heels at work. Japanese law prohibits sexual discrimination in the workplace; however, there are no regulations preventing employers from requiring specific work attire for men or women. In a recent survey, 60% of Japanese women reported that they are expected to wear high heels at work. The hashtag #KuToo, which combines the Japanese words for shoe (kutsu) and pain (kutsuu) is a spin-off of the #MeToo movement.
