Harry heard the door of the Hall creak open again, and more footsteps.
哈利聽見大廳的門響了一聲又開了，還聽見了更多的腳步聲。
'Headmaster?' It was Snape. Harry kept quite still, listening hard.
“校長？”這是斯內普。哈利仍舊靜靜地躺著，用心去聽。
'The whole of the third floor has been searched. He's not there.
“整個四樓都查過了，他不在那里。
And Filch has done the dungeons; nothing there, either.'
費爾奇查了城堡主樓，那里也沒有。”
'What about the Astronomy Tower? Professor Trelawney's room? The Owlery?'
“天文塔呢？特里勞妮教授的房間？貓頭鷹棲息出沒的地方？”
'All searched...' 'Very well, Severus. I didn't really expect Black to linger.'
“都查過了……”“很好，西弗勒斯，我并不真正以為布萊克會逗留不走。”
'Have you any theory as to how he got in, Professor?' asked Snape.
“他怎么進來的，關于這一點，你有什么見解嗎，校長？”斯內普問道。
Harry raised his head very slightly off his arms to free his other ear.
哈利把頭稍稍抬起一點，以便另外一只耳朵聽得清楚些。
'Many, Severus, each of them as unlikely as the next.'
“許多，西弗勒斯，每一種都和底下的那種一樣不可能。”
Harry opened his eyes a fraction and squinted up to where they stood;
哈利眼睛睜開了一條縫，偷偷向他們站的地方看。
Dumbledore's back was to him, but he could see Percy's face, rapt with attention, and Snape's profile, which looked angry.
鄧布利多背對著他，但他可以看到珀西的臉，但見他全神貫注，還可以看到斯內普的側面，斯內普似乎在生氣。
'You remember the conversation we had, Headmaster, just before — ah — the start of term?'
“你記得我們的談話罷，校長，就在——哦——學期開始以前吧？”
said Snape, who was barely opening his lips, as though trying to block Percy out of the conversation.
斯內普說，說話時嘴唇幾乎沒有張開，好像是不想讓珀西參與他們的談話似的。
'I do, Severus,' said Dumbledore, and there was something like warning in his voice.
“記得，西弗勒斯。”鄧布利多說，聲音里含有類似警告的意味。
'It seems — almost impossible — that Black could have entered the school without inside help.
“好像——幾乎不可能——布萊克沒有內部的幫助是進不了這所學校的，
I did express my concerns when you appointed —'
我的確表示過關注，在你任命——”
'I do not believe a single person inside this castle would have helped Black enter it,'
“我不相信這座城堡里哪一個人會幫助布萊克進來。”
said Dumbledore, and his tone made it so clear that the subject was closed that Snape didn't reply.
鄧布利多說，他的聲調清楚地表明這件事就談到這里為止，因此斯內普沒有作答。
