So here's another tale of passion, and this is a sad one.
我再講一個熱情但是卻悲傷的故事。
The place is a small women's clinic in a village in Bangladesh. The year is 2005.
這事發(fā)生在孟加拉的一個村子的小婦女診所。時間是在2005年。
Jenny is a young American dental hygienist who has gone to the clinic as a volunteer during her three-week vacation.
珍妮是一位年輕的美國牙科衛(wèi)生員，在她三個星期的假期中，作為志愿者來到了這個診所。
She's prepared to clean teeth, but when she gets there,
她本來是準備去清洗牙齒，但是當她到那里時，
she finds out that there are no doctors, no dentists, and the clinic is just a hut full of flies.
卻發(fā)現并沒有醫(yī)生，沒有牙科醫(yī)生，診所也到處飛滿了蒼蠅。
Outside, there is a line of women who have waited several hours to be treated.
診所外面排滿了婦女，她們要等了幾個小時以看病。
The first patient is in excruciating pain because she has several rotten molars.

Jenny realizes that the only solution is to pull out the bad teeth.
珍妮發(fā)現唯一的解決辦法就是拔掉壞牙齒。
She's not licensed for that; she has never done it. She risks a lot and she's terrified.
她沒有相關執(zhí)照，之前從沒干過這事。她冒了很大風險并且非常緊張。
She doesn't even have the proper instruments, but fortunately she has brought some Novocaine.
她甚至沒有適合的工具，但是很幸運地是她帶了奴佛卡因。
Jenny has a brave and passionate heart. She murmurs a prayer and she goes ahead with the operation.
珍妮有著勇敢和熱情的心。她做了祈禱之后就開始進行手術。
At the end, the relieved patient kisses her hands. That day the hygienist pulls out many more teeth.
最后，病人親吻了她的手心。那一天這位衛(wèi)生員拔出了很多牙齒。
The next morning, when she comes again to the so-called clinic, her first patient is waiting for her with her husband.
第二天，當她再次來到這所謂的診所時，她的第一位病人正和她的丈夫一起等著她。
The woman's face looks like a watermelon. It is so swollen that you can't even see the eyes.
她的臉看上去就像個大西瓜，臉腫得都看不到她的眼睛。
The husband, furious, threatens to kill the American.
她的丈夫非常憤怒，揚言要殺掉美國人。
Jenny is horrified at what she has done, but then the translator explains that the patient's condition has nothing to do with the operation.
珍妮對她所做到感到很驚訝，但是當翻譯員解釋病人的狀況與手術無關。
The day before, her husband beat her up because she was not home in time to prepare dinner for him.
前一天，她的丈夫狠狠地揍了她一頓，僅僅因為她沒有為他準備晚餐。
