as作介詞的使用
as作為介詞時,可以表示“像……”,這時它可以和like互用;as還可以表示“以……身份”或“作為……”,“當作……”,但like不能。
As a philosopher, Emerson was dedicated to the truth.
作為一名哲學家,愛默生致力于追求真理。
They talked as old friends.
他們談起話來像是老朋友。
可替換為They talked like old friends.
as作連詞的使用
作“當……的時候”,引導時間狀語從句。注意與when、 while 的用法區別。
A. when作“當……的時候”解,可以指較短的(一點)時間,也可指一段時間。
When he was at college, he could speak several foreign languages.
當他上大學期間,會說很多門外語。
When the clock struck twelve, all the lights in the street went out.
當晚上12點鐘一到,街上的燈便熄滅了。
B. while常表示一段較長的時間或一個過程,強調主句謂語動詞與從句謂語動詞同時發生。
Play while you play. Work while you work.
玩兒要盡情;工作要投入。
C. 但屬下列情形時,只用as, 而不用when或while。
1)用于表示同一個人的兩種動作交替進行,指“一邊……,一邊……”。
The girl dances as she sings on the stage.
姑娘在舞臺上邊跳邊唱。
He looked behind from time to time as he went forward.
他一邊往前走,一邊往回望著。
2)表示兩個同步發展的動作或行為,譯為“隨著……”。
As time went on / by, she became more and more worried.
隨著時間的推移,她越發焦慮起來。
As children get older,they become more and more interested in the things around them.
隨著孩子越來越大,他們對身邊的事物也越發感興趣了。
3)表示兩個短促行為或事件幾乎同時發生,一觸即發。
I thought of it just as you opened your mouth.
你剛一張嘴,我就知道你要說什么。
4) 后接名詞表示某一年齡段時,用as。
As a young man, he was active in sports.
在他年輕時,他熱衷于體育運動。
as作副詞的使用
1.表示同等程度、質量、數量等,作“一樣地……”解釋。
Steve runs fast, but I run just as fast.
史蒂夫跑的很快,但是我跑的和他一樣快。
Tom has a lot of money, but I don't have as much.
湯姆有很多的錢,而我的錢沒有他(一樣)多。
2.用在形容詞或者-ed形式的過去分詞前,相當于形容詞或過去分詞作定語,但as仍然保留其原來的詞匯意義。
In the dead of night I was suddenly wakened by a cry as made by a wolf.
