Louis Cha in Cambridge
金庸80歲拜師學(xué)藝
Louis Cha, famously known as Jin Yong, went to Cambridge University to study for a non-honorary master's degree after receiving his honorary doctorate from the university in 2005. Aged 81, he became one of the oldest students to enroll in the university's history. Since two years ago，Cha has been studying for his PhD in Oriental Studies, Chinese History, at St John's College, Cambridge.
查良錚，即著名的金庸先生，于2005年獲得劍橋大學(xué)榮譽博士學(xué)位后，前往劍橋攻讀碩士學(xué)位。81歲高齡的他，成為劍橋歷史上年齡最大的學(xué)生之一。兩年前，他開始在圣約翰學(xué)院攻讀東方研究及中國歷史博士學(xué)位。
While in Cambridge, Cha and his wife has rented a house near the university, which is much shabbier compared to their house in Hong Kong. It is interesting that after a careful discussion they have decided to hire an Italian chef to cook meals for them so that they can eat Chinese food in Italianate style.
在劍橋的時候，金庸夫婦在學(xué)校附近租了一套住房。與在香港的住所相比，他在劍橋的住所顯得十分簡陋。有趣的是，“大俠”和太太商量，請了一位意大利廚師解決一日三餐，能吃到意大利式的“中國菜”。
Every day, Cha carries a slanting satchel which contains all the books and material he needs for class that day. As a renown kung fu novelist, he has a lot of fans. Whenever some of his fans ask him for his signature，he would refuse them politely and tell them jokingly that if he was taking a walk or having a coffee instead of going to class, he would sign for them.
金大俠每天斜背著一只書包，書包中裝著當天上課要用的書和資料。遇到有“金迷”上前請求簽名，他每次都婉言拒絕，并補充一句：“我在散步或者在喝咖啡時，可以給你們簽名?！?/div>
In the beginning, Cha used to go to class by bike. However, he no longer rides a bike now because his wife is afraid that the cars in the campus might knock him down. Then, the bike was replaced by a car, but Cha called himself an old man with little sense of direction and before long gave up the car too. Then how does he go to school? The best way is to take a taxi.
開始金大俠還曾騎車上學(xué)，不過現(xiàn)在單車是不騎了，因為太太擔心校園里穿梭的汽車很容易把人撞倒。后來改為開汽車，但金庸又自稱是個“沒有方向感的老頭兒”，所以沒幵幾次也放棄了。如何上課呢？最終的辦法只好是每天搭出租車。
Why would Cha want to study at Cambridge while he was in his eighties? Some people think that it is because his cousin Xu Zhimo had studied in this university. When Cha was very young, his mother once praised his cousin for going to Cambridge University. Of course, Cha was a little jealous, determing that one day he would study in Cambridge too. However, the most important reason is his strong thirst for knowledge. In an interview, Cha told a reporter: “Some people said that I am not qualified to be the dean of school of literature in Zhejiang University. I could not retort upon them and the only thing I can do is to increase my own knowledge.” His willingness to learn deserves our, especially young people's，admiration. As Cha once said，he wants to set an example for the young, showing them it's never too late to learn and people -should exert themselves to learn.
80多歲的金庸為什么要去劍橋讀書呢？有人說因為他的表哥徐志摩曾在劍橋讀書。金庸的媽媽就跟他說，你看你的表哥徐志摩多厲害，讀的是劍橋大學(xué)。金庸當然不服氣，便說自己長大也要讀劍橋大學(xué)！然而，最主要的原因是金庸先生對于學(xué)問的渴求。金庸先生在接受媒體記者采訪時說，“在浙江大學(xué)擔任文學(xué)院院長，有人說我學(xué)問不好，不夠做院長。別人指責，我不能反駁，唯一的辦法就是增加自己的學(xué)問。” 金庸先生的求學(xué)精神，值得我們大家尤其是年輕人敬佩和學(xué)習(xí)。正如金庸先生所說，他想為現(xiàn)在的年輕人樹立一個榜樣，活到老,學(xué)到老，人人都應(yīng)該努力地學(xué)習(xí)。
