Will the wave and pay system of the latest iPhone be making it to China anytime soon? While newly-debuted Apple Pay has yet to be offered in China, the company's CEO Tim Cook earlier this week prompted a flurry of speculation on a possible tie-up with Alipay. Cook has met twice recently with Jack Ma, the majority stakeholder in Alipay and the founder and chairman of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd., a firm linked to Alipay. Both told the media that they are very interested in forming a partnership. But some experts say the talk could be aimed at negotiations with Unionpay, the country's only bankcard network operator. Chen Jianwei, a payment tech expert, said UnionPay is still Apple's best and, for some time to come, only option in the Chinese market. Apple and UnionPay have reached a preliminary agreement about cooperation that would allow iPhone 6 users to link the devices to UnionPay cards. But details are still being worked out and Chen said UnionPay has been moving too slowly.
