China has confirmed 3 new cases of H7N9 bird flu, bringing the total number of infections across the country to 66.

The latest three patients are in Jiangsu province and are said to be in serious condition. So far, 14 people have died across China. Six provinces and municipalities have reported human cases of the bird flu infection. Experts say no evidence of human-to-human transmission has been found, but the possibility cannot be ruled out.

The National Health and Family Planning Commission announced that the country's social security system will cover the cost of treatment for all confirmed H7N9 patients. Beijng Municipality and Guangdong province have each allocated 30 million yuan for contingency funds. Those outside the social security system can still seek help from urban and rural medical assistance programs. China is now working on counter measures to the virus with experts from the World Health Organization and European countries.
