One of China's top Olympic heroes has touched down in London. Hurdling specialist Liu Xiang arrived on Wednesday, aiming to get back into the Olympic blocks at full health and in top form.
First, Liu Xiang will compete in the IAAF Diamond League London Grand Prix at Crystal Palace on Friday. It will be his last warm-up event before the Olympic Games. Four years ago in Beijing, the athletics star pulled out of the 110 meter hurdles with an Achilles injury, but he has steadily marched back into shape, narrowly missing the title at last year’s world championships.
Liu registered a wind-assisted world record-tying time of 12.87 seconds. He will occupy the spotlight in London Olympic track and field, walking into the event as one of the season’s top performers and leading the Diamond League standings for the 110m hurdles.
