In daily life, we often say "要不是......" in our conversation, how should we put it in English. Easy , remember the following sentence patterns.
1 If it weren't for..., S+ wouldn't do. 要不是……, 就不會……
2 If it weren't for..., S+ couldn't do. 要不是……, 就能夠……
3 If it weren't for..., S+ might not do. 要不是……, 就不可能……

All right, let's look at a sentences: Were it not for your good tutor, you couldn't win the first prize in this speech compitition. 要不是你有一個很好的指導老師，你就不能夠在這次演講大賽中獲得冠軍。 Do you think it's a little strange? Anyway, I do. As a matter of a fact, 上面那個句子是一個倒裝句，這個句子的原行是：If it weren't for your good tutor, you couldn't win the first prize. 這個句子如何倒裝呢？In truth, it's a piece of cake. 首先，把if省去；然后把系動詞were提前到句首。其余語序均不變。
Let's look at another sentence: Should you lose your way, you could ring the number 110 for help. 萬一你迷路的話，你就撥打110求助。這個也是個倒裝句。It is as easy as the above sentence. 首先，把if 去掉。然后，把助動詞should提前至句首。其余語序均不變

So , we can get two sentence patterns。
1 Were it for... , S+ wouldn’t (couldn’t, might not) do.
2 Should S do, S + wouldn’t (couldn’t , might not) do.
【小編的喇叭】
在表示對現在或是將來情況的假設，推測和純然主觀愿望的虛擬條件句中，只有從句中含有it weren't for...和 含有should的2類句子可以倒裝，其他的均不可以進行倒裝。At then end of the programme, I want to place an emphasize that we must use were, not was. 在節目的最后，我想強調一點就是，it屬于第三人稱單數，但是這里不是指代人，因此不能像she和he那樣自由可以用was, 也可以用were.
