How does the water come down at Lodore?
洛多瀑布的水，怎么落下的呢？
My little boy asked me thus once on a time;
曾經(jīng)一次，年幼的兒子問我，
And, moreover, he tasked me to tell him in rhyme.
甚至特別要求，用韻律節(jié)奏告訴他。
Anon at the word,
此后不久，
There first came one daughter,
女兒也有如此疑問，
And then came another, To second and third the request of their brother,
三個(gè)妹妹， 走馬燈地詢問哥哥，
And to hear how the water comes down at Lodore,
當(dāng)時(shí)，那瀑布的水， 究竟如何落下。
With its rush and its roar,
水吼叫著，直沖而下，
As many a time they had seen it before.
許多許多次，大人們以前看過。
So I told them in rhyme,
我用詩歌節(jié)奏描述，
For of rhymes I had store,
那心底珍藏的韻律，
And 't was in my vocation for their recreation that so I should sing;
留存于昔日旅程中，跌宕起伏的過去，我應(yīng)該放開歌喉，
Because I was Laureate to them and the King.
將桂冠詩人的吟頌，告訴孩子，獻(xiàn)與上帝。
From its sources which well in the tarn on the fell;
洛多瀑布老家，坐落在 嶙峋多石的山頂，小湖邊，
From its fountains in the mountains,
泉眼潺潺，山間,
Its rills and its gills;
淙淙流淌，匯成叮咚溪河，
Through moss and through brake,
流過滿山青苔、樹叢，
It runs and it creeps for a while, till it sleeps in its own little lake.
時(shí)快，時(shí)緩，過了一會(huì)，它，居然睡著了。 落腳到，雍積的小湖，
And thence at departing,
從那里出發(fā)，
Awakening and starting,
蘇醒后，它再度啟程，
It runs through the reeds,
蜿蜒走過，蘆葦沼澤，
And away it proceeds,
一路上，川流不息，
Through meadow and glade,
流經(jīng)草地，灌叢空曠，
In sun and in shade,
陽光下，或森林蓊郁，
And through the wood shelter, among crags in its flurry,
面對(duì)懸崖峭壁，掀起在峭壁間亂舞，
Helter-skelter,
湍流急浪，倉皇驚慌地
Hurry-skurry.
奏起，雜亂無序的樂章。
Here it comes sparkling,
那股黑暗中光亮，奔瀉而來，
And there it lies darkling;
不再低調(diào)，迸發(fā)張揚(yáng)，
Now smoking and frothing its tumult and wrath in,
霧氣漫天，浪花飛濺，醞釀著。騷動(dòng)，呼嘯憤怒，
Till, in this rapid race on which it is bent,
積聚最后，爆發(fā)出千鈞力量，直到，快步趕到這里，
It reaches the place of its steep descent.
彎起身軀，從陡峭懸崖上，騰空飛起，驟然躍下。
The cataract strong then plunges along,
湍急洪流，磅礴而來，天塹處，撞擊瘋狂，
Striking and raging as if a war waging its caverns and rocks among;
龍騰虎躍，訇然雷動(dòng)，猶如，戰(zhàn)爭(zhēng)中萬炮齊發(fā)，在山中，無數(shù)洞穴石窟炸響。
