第二十九課 更好的土地
"I hear thee speak of the Better Land,
“我聽(tīng)到你說(shuō)的更好的土地,
Thou call'st its children a happy band;
叫孩子一個(gè)快樂(lè)的樂(lè)隊(duì);
Mother, oh! where is that radiant shore?
媽媽,哦!,光芒四射的 海岸在哪里?
Shall we not seek it, and weep no more?
我們不尋求它,不再哭泣?
Is it where the flower of the orange blows,
那里黃花在吹,
And the fire-flies glance through the myrtle boughs?"
和沿著橘樹(shù)看著桃金娘的樹(shù)枝?”
"Not there, not there, my child!"
“沒(méi)有,沒(méi)有,我的孩子!”
"Is it where the feathery palm-trees rise,
“那里有羽毛般的棕櫚樹(shù),
And the date grows ripe under sunny skies?
在陽(yáng)光下日漸成熟?
Or 'midst the green islands on glittering seas,
或在綠色島嶼上，閃閃發(fā)光的海洋中,
Where fragrant forests perfume the breeze,
那里有芳香的森林飄著香風(fēng),
And strange bright birds, on their starry wings,
和奇怪的明亮的鳥(niǎo)類,閃閃發(fā)光的翅膀,
Bear the rich hues of all glorious things?"
承擔(dān)所有的豐富色彩光榮的事情嗎?”
"Not there, not there, my child!"
“沒(méi)有,沒(méi)有,我的孩子!”
"Is it far away in some region old,
“這是在遙遠(yuǎn)的一些地區(qū),
Where the rivers wander o'er sands of gold;
黃金的河流邊的沙灘漫步;
Where the burning rays of the ruby shine,
燃燒的閃耀的光芒,
And the diamond lights up the secret mine,
和鉆石點(diǎn)亮秘密的礦藏,
And the pearl gleams forth from the coral strand;

Is it there, sweet mother, that Better Land?"

"Eye hath not seen it, my gentle boy;
“眼睛未曾看見(jiàn)它,我的溫柔的男孩;
Ear hath not heard its deep songs of joy;
耳朵未曾聽(tīng)見(jiàn)歡樂(lè)的歌;
Dreams cannot picture a world so fair:
夢(mèng)想不能想象一個(gè)世界,公平:
Sorrow and death may not enter there;
悲傷和死亡可能沒(méi)有進(jìn)入;
Time doth not breathe on its fadeless bloom;
時(shí)間不呼吸不褪色的綻放;
For beyond the clouds and beyond the tomb—
