一.Civil：adj.公民的, 文明的, 國內的, 民用的, 民事的
【詞義辨析】
polite, civil, courteous
這些形容詞均含“禮貌的、客氣的”之意。
polite普通常用詞，指言論舉止無論何時均嚴謹有禮，很有教養。
civil語氣弱于polite，著重只達到社交的一般要求，避免粗魯。
courteous指言談舉止典雅，謙恭有禮，更側重考慮他人的感情與尊嚴。
【例句用法】
The America Civil War was broken out during the presidency of Lincoln.
在林肯就職其間，美國爆發了內戰。
We were tired of being pushed around by officious civil servants.
我們厭煩那些官老爺把我們支來支去。
The secession of some southern states from the USA in the 1860s led to the civil war.
由于南部某些州于十九世紀六十年代脫離美國而導致了南北戰爭。
This ruined bridge is a relic of the Civil War.
這座毀壞的橋是南北戰爭時的遺跡。
It was a civil case so there was no question of him being sent to prison.

【語法用法】
1.order作名詞時，在有些詞組中前面不加冠詞a/an/the，如in alphabetical order，in order of arrival，by order（奉命）等；
order作名詞，在有些句子中要用復數形式orders。
They received orders to start at once.
The soldiers have orders not to let anybody come past.
He is under orders to leave for Moscow next Monday.
order作名詞或動詞指“命令”時，語氣較重，不能用在家人間。
He ordered his son to buy a newspaper for him.
這種表達方式是錯誤的
2.order作動詞或名詞指“命令”時，后面可跟that從句，從句中用虛擬現在式。
He orders that the work (should) be started at once.
order作動詞，后可跟賓語和不定式，不可直接跟不定式。
He ordered them to start the work at once.
order作名詞指“訂單”時，后面跟介詞for。
We have sent an order for a hundred copies of the book.
我們下訂單訂了一百份這本書。
3.order作名詞指“訂單”時，可跟動詞execute或fill（美語中常用）表示“按照訂單交貨”。
Your order for a hundred copies of the book has been executed/filled already.
order后可跟雙賓語.
My mother has ordered me a new suit.
作名詞時，order后還可跟for和款項表示訂單金額。例：money/postal/post-office order for ￥200；
in order to比單用to更加正式且語氣重，口語中很少用in order to。正式程度從大到小：in order to，so as to，to。表目的還可以跟從句in order that；
in order在不同語境中有多重含義。
Everything is in order.
一切正常有序。
The typewriter is in order.
這臺打字機工作正常。A fresh discussion of the question is now in order.
現在正適合重新討論這問題。
【錯句舉例與錯句分析】
錯句: The soldiers were ordered standing at attention.
訂正: The soldiers were ordered to stand at attention.
翻譯: 士兵們收到命令立正站好。
分析: order的賓語補足語只能是不定式，不可以是動名詞。
【詞義辨析】
command, order, direction, instruction
這些名詞均含“命令”之意。
command較正式用詞，強調權威性、全局性和強制性。
order普通用詞，側重指具體的命令。
direction正式用詞，指口頭或書面的指示或命令。內容不一定詳盡，語氣較緩和，不太強調強制性。也可指指導性的說明。
instruction書面用詞，指不容違反、不容推翻的命令。也多指包含具體說明的指示。
order, bid, command
這些動詞均含有“命令”之意。
order普通用詞，多指上級對下級，主人對仆人以及教師對學生等發出的命令，也指態度專橫地命令他人。
bid與order同義，但較正式，文學意味強，多指口頭直接下的命令。
command話意強，指正式下令，強調下令者的權威性，要求必須服從。
【例句用法】
The policeman ordered the motorist to stop.
警察指示讓那開車的人停車
The chairman ordered silence.
主席要大家安靜。
The social order of ants is very interesting.
螞蟻的社會結構非常有趣。
The police must try to restore order.
警方必須努力恢復治安。
Everything in the house is in order.
這座房子里一切都井然有序。
