blow out:
取消;切斷;中止;吹熄;爆破
區分:blow off ,blow out(前者還是借助外力吹滅東西, 后者是一般用被動時態,受力者充當主語)
blow off 借助風,呼氣等的力量沿某方向移動
Exampe:My hat blew off.我的帽子被風掛掉了。
He blew the dust off the book.他吹去了書上的灰塵。
blow out指火焰等被風吹滅 油井或汽井(井噴)
Example:Somebody opened the door and the candle blew out.有人打開了門蠟燭隨之被吹滅了。
show up:
1.顯而易見; 使顯示出
A police put some chemicals on the piece of paper and a line of words showed up.
一位警察在一張條上涂上化學藥品, 一行字跡清晰地顯現出來。
2.到場, 出席
He showed up when we least expected him.
我們根本沒有料到, 他竟然來了。
3.羞辱, 使丟臉
He showed his parents up rather badly.
他給他父母丟盡了臉。
endure和bear的區別:
endure=(bear bravely)指經受長期的艱難、困苦或折磨而不屈服,強調持久力和意志堅強(常用于否定句中)
要特別注意“長時間”三字
例如:
We had to endure a nine-hour delay at the airport.
The man endured 10 years of prison life.
The little boy found it difficult to endure spending his summer holidays with his Uncle.
bear意為“忍受”,側重強調某人的心理或身體承受能力.強調忍受者對痛苦、憂慮、煩惱以及責任的承受力(常用于否定句中)
例如:
The strain must have been enormous but she bore it well.
當時的壓力想必很大,但她還是承受下來。
It’s your decision—you must bear the responsibility if things go wrong.
He couldn’t bear to see the dog in pain.
