隨著我國加入世貿(mào)組織和北京將舉辦2008年奧運會，越來越多的外國人到中國經(jīng)商和旅游，英語被使用的越來越廣泛。英語標識語和提示語在人們的生活當中越來越重要了，但目前我國有很多標識語和提示話使用不規(guī)范，比如：有些旅游場所標有"No visitors"(游客止步)，很多商店標有"Business time" (營業(yè)時間)，甚至首都機場有些標識語也不規(guī)范，如："Claim luggage" (取行李)。這些都會給外國朋友造成一定的交際和溝通方面的障礙。
下面是部分標識語和提示語。

Road and Traffic 公路和交通
Approaching end of motorway 即將駛出高速。
Avoid the jams. 避免交通堵塞。
Dangerous bend 彎道危險
Diverted traffic 交叉路口
Entry to motorway 高速入口
Left junction 左交叉口
Look left (right) 向左（右）看。
Low bridge ahead 前方橋低。
New hours of parking control 停車控制新時段
No entry 禁止駛人
No stopping at any time 任何時間不準停車
No thoroughfare 禁止通行
No trade or business vehicle unless authorized 未經(jīng)允許貨車禁止通行。
Pedestrian crossing ahead 注意前方人行橫道。

Parking for taxis only 只準許出租停。

Please do not park in front of the barrier 請不要在護攔前停車。
Please do not park. Garage in use. 車庫使用，門前請不要停車。
Please ensure that you have paid and display 請確保已買票并張貼。
Rent a car and go as you please 租輛車想去哪就去哪。
Strictly no parking 嚴禁停車
